Author Guidelines Iran Occupational Health (ISSN: 1735-5133 , E-ISSN: 2228-7493 )
The Iran occupational health journal seeks to publish Original Research Papers and Case Reports, Review Articles and Technical Reports related to the fields of Public Health and Occupational Health particularly. IOH is an official publication of Tehran University of Medical Sciences, Faculty of Public Health and is published quarterly. The following guidelines refer to the Journal requirements for receiving your manuscripts for possible publication. Complying with guidelines will expedite the process of evaluation and publication of the submitted manuscripts. IOH regrets to reject those contributions that deviate from the Journal style. Preparation of Manuscripts The submitted manuscript labeled as “original research” MUST include: title page, abstract, introduction, method(s), findings, discussion and/or conclusion, acknowledgment and references. However, case reports MUST include an unstructured abstract, introduction, case presentation, discussion and/or conclusion. Review articles may have a structured abstract, background or introduction, review of the literature, and conclusion. Use only standard abbreviations; avoid using them in the title and abstract. The full term for which an abbreviation stands should precede its first use in the text unless it is a standard unit of measurement. The title page : The complete title of the manuscript, the name of all the authors with their highest qualifications, the department or institution to which they are affiliated, corresponding author address with, e-mail and Tel/Fax numbers. Authorship : Authors should have participated sufficiently in the work to take scientific responsibility and have substantial contribution to the paper meeting the criteria endorsed by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors ( www.icmje.org ). All authors must complete and submit a signed Authorship Form stating the ‘authors’ contribution’, ‘financial disclosure’ and ‘funding/ support’. The Abstract : All original articles must accompany with a structured abstract up to 250 words. It should be structured in Background and Aims, Methods, Findings and Conclusion followed by 3 to 5 Keywords selected from the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) (Free accessible from http://www.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/MBrowser.html). Unstructured abstract should reflect the content concisely in less than 150 words. Introduction : This should summarize the purpose and the rationale for the study. It should neither review the subject extensively nor should it have data or conclusions of the study.
Method(s) : This should include exact method or observation or experiment. If an apparatus is used, its manufacturer’s name and address should be given. Statistical method must be mentioned and specify any general computer program used. The measurement units used should be clearly mentioned. Results : It should be presented in the form of text, tables and/or illustrations. The contents of the tables should not be all repeated in the text. Instead, a reference to the table number may be given. If it facilitates conveying the content to the reader, using sub-headings within some sections is allowed. Discussion and/or Conclusion : This should emphasize the present findings and the variations or similarities with other works carried out in the field. The detailed data should not be repeated in the discussion again. Rather, emphasize the new and important aspects of the study and the conclusions that follow from them. Limitations of the study should be addressed where applicable. Acknowledgment: All contributors who do not meet the criteria for the authorship should be covered in the acknowledgment. Financial and material support should also be acknowledged. If the work is based on a thesis, it should be acknowledged clearly in this section. References : All manuscripts should be accompanied by relevant references. The author should ensure reference to locally published studies by doing proper literature search. To ease the citations, it is well recommended that authors use the ‘Endnote Software’. It may not be possible for the editor and reviewers to check the accuracy of all reference citations. To minimize such errors author should verify references against the original documents. All reference citations taken from Farsi literature should be transliterated in English Alphabets. Besides, place the word “Persian” in square brackets at the end of transliterated references. For in-text citing a number in square brackets is allocated to a resource in the order in which it is cited in the text. If the source is referred to again, the same number is used. Example: ...as one author has put it “the darkest days were still ahead” [1]: which is well documented in the literature [2-5]. This proves that “the darkest days were still ahead” [1]. Note: the “[2-5]” refers to references 2 to 5 (i.e. 2,3,4, and 5) but if you like to mention references 2 AND 5 you should cite them in text as “[2,5]”. Numbers should be inserted to the left of colons, semicolons, and full stops. The author’s name can also be integrated into the text; e.g. Scholtz [2] has argued that... For preparation of final list of references use following general guides according to the Vancouver Style. 1. Journal article List the first six authors followed by et al. Example: Vega KJ, Pina I, Krevsky B. Heart transplantation is associated with an increased risk for pancreatobiliary disease. Ann Intern Med 1996 Jun 1; 124 (11):980-3. Emerg Infect Dis [serial online] 2005 Jan-Mar; 1(1): Available from: URL: http://www.cdc.gov/ ncidod/ EID/eid.htm [Cited 2006 Jun 5] Duplication of Submission The authors must certify that the manuscript has not been submitted to any other journal at the same time, nor be published previously in any other formats in Persian. Submission requirements Prior to submitting the final manuscript, authors MUST check the submitted manuscript for the following requirements: 1. Double space all parts of manuscripts; 2. Begin each section with suitable related heading; 3. Tables are each on separate page; 4. Illustrations should be no larger than 203 x 254 mm. (8 x 10 inches); 5. Include permission to reproduce previously published material or to use illustrations that may identify human subjects; 6. Enclose transfer of copyright and other forms; 7. All figures including images, illustrations, graphs, charts, diagrams, and any other object related to the article MUST be in high quality format. Accepted formats for images, graphs, illustrations include high resolution (300 dpi or more) PCX/jpeg/TIFF/png/Bmp. Tables, charts, and graphs which are designed in Microsoft Office software must be submitted in original format. Charts and tables that are released by statistical software such as SPSS must also be submitted in MS Office or images’ formats, but Word format (i.e. doc) is preferred - for this case you may export your tables and charts directly from Statistical Machines like SPSS to Word (XP or 2007). Colored images and illustrations must be reproduced in grayscale (black and white) format in original software machine with suitable lucidity for conveying the important details. Submitting the manuscript 1. Prepare a full copy of the article on an electronic disk such as CD/DVD (but NOT a floppy disk) in addition with 3 paper copies and send them via EXPRESS MAIL to the Journal Office (Faculty of Public Health, Iran University of Medical Science- No. 60, Alvand St. Argentina Sq, Tehran; Post Code: 15875-4199 ); 2. Submit an electronic format of the full manuscript via email to ijoh@tums.ac.ir Peer reviewing process All manuscripts are peer-reviewed by at least 2 anonymous reviewers selected by the Editor-in-Chief. The corresponding author is notified as soon as possible of the editor decision to accept, reject, or required modifications. If the manuscript is completely acceptable according to the Journal’s manuscript requirements it will be scheduled for the next available issue. Once editing needed, the manuscript accompany with reviewers’ recommendations would be returned to the corresponding author for modification in due time. Once rejected, copies and materials of the manuscript would be disposed and a rejection notification would be sent to the corresponding author. Rejected manuscripts are not returned to the authors. Ethical issues : Any ethical issue including ‘informed consent’ must be addressed where necessary. Seeking ethical approval is mandatory from an appropriate body, and should be stated in the manuscript. Conflict of interests should also be addressed. Disclosure information must include any financial relationship that each author has with the sponsoring organization and the for-profit interests the organization represents, and with any for-profit product discussed or implied in the text of the article.
